Invalid Apple ID error - Why am I not able to enable Mobicip for my older child?
As you may already know, Apple doesn’t allow setting up parental controls for kids aged 18 and above. Parental control on a 18 year old may seem counterintuitive since legally they're considered adults. At this point, it's more about guiding and advising rather than controlling. However, if there are concerns about their online safety, enabling Mobicip is the right step.
This article explains the steps to set up Family sharing on your child’s adult Apple ID, to get past the screen below and continue setting up Mobicip.
Steps:
- The age of your child in the iCloud account settings should be under 17. To check the same, go to Settings app on your child’s device > Click on Apple ID name > Family Sharing > see if the age of the child here is 17 or below or listed as an ‘Adult’.
If the age is set up correctly and you still can’t get past the initial screen, please contact Mobicip Support for further assistance.
- If your child is listed as ‘Adult’ in Family sharing, then you need to change the Date of Birth (DOB) associated with your child’s iCloud account.
- To change the DOB, login to your child’s iCloud account at Manage Apple ID page
- Click Personal Information > Birthday > Update the year of birth here, so that your child’s age is set below 17.
- Wait for a few minutes and check if the age change is reflected on your child’s device under Family sharing info. The status of your child’s account should no longer display as ‘Adult’.
- Now clear Mobicip app from the background, relaunch the app, continue with setting up the app.
